It’s Too Loud

If you are like me and you have been unnecessarily clung to the internet, your smart phone, your twitter, the news, etc… for much of the past few days this is for you. If you feel slightly dizzy because of all the political spinning going on, do yourself a favor….

AND TURN IT OFF!!

I mean it. When you’re through with this blog post, get up and go turn it all off. Grab a book. Sit outside on your front porch. Drink a YooHoo. Snuggle with your children. Feed your kitty cat. Find and pet a unicorn. Do something else that is more productive and way more worthy of your time.

If you’re in despair, I have news for you: our government, as historically ground breaking and brilliant as it is, and its ornate offices are occupied with imperfect and sinful people. They’re the same as you and I. Imperfect people in need of a perfect savior. They are people who desperately need prayer. People who ultimately have no earthly hope and who will fail us time and time again. I can understand there not being a lot of empathy or compassion towards our elected officials to go around, but guess what …

it’s what we’re called to.

We aren’t called to agree with every political premise that they offer up. We are called to be peacemakers. We are called to love. We are called to speak the truth. Jesus opposed when He was theologically called to oppose, but He operated with respect for the rule of law and the institution because they were put in place by a sovereign God in heaven.

Jesus was first and foremost a heavenly patriot. He based His actions on the exhortation, no scratch that, commands of His father, joyfully might I add. He was a faithful follower FIRST.

So if you’re jaded, whether you lean to the right or left, whether you blame the right or left, find refreshment in HIS word today. Uphold His commandments first, and follow His example. In doing so, our actions honor the Father.

1 Peter 2: 13- 17

13 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,

whether it be to the emperor as supreme,

14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil

and to praise those who do good.

15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil,

but living as servants of God.

17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
